12th April 2009

Welcome to a new Rugby Year at CFC.  This is the 146th year of the Christchurch Football Club.  Axemen membership numbers are tied to the age of the club as a membership maximum.  If you know of someone wanting to become an Axeman we would welcome that enquiry.

We enclose a “beanie” as an acknowledgement of your on-going contribution to the Ruby Club – hope it keeps you warm at the rugby this year.  We also enclose your subscription notice - payment is due by May 20th.  For your information from your subscriptions Trustees pay 146 x General Subscriptions to the Club (number increases by 1 each year) and the balance funds selected club projects.  Last year this included new seating stands at CHCH Park and a $5,000 contribution to our Senior team’s Spanish tour.

Here are some important dates for you:

4.   We wish to update our email addresses.  Should you have a new or changed email, or you not be receiving the weekly CFC Newsletter please email info@christchurchpark.co.nz. and advise accordingly.

Chairman Derrick Abbott fell on an escalator recently and is currently having corrective surgery on a very serious leg injury.  We wish Derrick a full and very speedy recovery.

We also wish Trustee Secretary Don Quested a speedy recovery following an operation for a new hip!

You gotta be tough to be a Trustee!!

If some of our Axemen were not part of a 146 year old Footy club they could be members of a cycling club!  Last weekends Grapetrail 150k ride included John Dench (amazing 3 hours), Don Menzies (amazing 4 hours), Josie and John Mill, Murray Robertson, Trevor Thompson (the sweeper), Grant Cooper, Kit Chambers, Craig Cox, Craig Calder and Muir Don.

The following day Trevor Cox took a bunch of the cyclists and their wives on a wine trail “doing it his way” to celebrate his 60th.  Happy Birthday Trevor.

Very best wishes to our Axemen members who are making major contributions to Rugby.  We hope Richie McCaw is back on the track soon and Robbie Deans wins all his “other games”.  How wonderful to see Jock Hobbs’ son Michael playing in the top level of professional rugby.  Pretty big boots to fill.  Congratulations and best wishes to the Hobbs family.

We have attached the Metropolitan Division One Draw for the season and look forward to seeing you.

Don’t forget to book seats NOW if you wish to attend either of the functions mentioned above – you snooze, you loose!

Best Wishes

Axemen Trustees
